On our quest to reach the summit of the second tallest mountain in Colombia, Pico Cristóbal Colón (5.700 mt) in the “Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta”, we met an aboriginal from the Arhuaco’s Tribe who traded his poporo for a flashlight.
We brought it to Canada when we came because we consider it to be a unique piece that represents our roots and adventures in our beloved country, Colombia.
** Poporo: Device used by indigenous cultures in South America for the storage of small amounts of lime for the chewing of coca leaves. Since the chewing of coca is sacred for the indigenous people, the Poporos are also attributed with mystical powers and social status. (Wykipedia)
